For enhanced safety, the front and rear seat shoulder belts of the Mercedes AMG E-Class Sedan have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision and force limiters to limit the pressure the belts will exert on the passengers. The Cadillac CT5-V doesn’t offer pretensioners for its rear seat belts.

The AMG E-Class Sedan’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The CT5-V doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

The AMG E-Class Sedan has a standard front seat center airbag, which deploys between the driver and front passenger, protecting them from injuries caused by striking each other in serious side impacts. The CT5-V doesn’t offer front seat center airbags.

In a Vehicle-to-Vehicle Frontal Crash Prevention 2.0 test conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the Mercedes AMG E-Class Sedan achieved a “Acceptable” rating - the second highest possible - for its performance in forward collision warning and automatic braking systems, demonstrating its excellent capabilities in preventing collisions. The Cadillac CT5-V has not been tested.

The AMG E-Class Sedan has a standard Post Collision Brake, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The CT5-V doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the AMG E-Class Sedan. But it costs extra on the CT5-V.

Earlier warning of stopped traffic, traffic signals, dangerous road conditions, weather, or accidents, can keep driver's safer and prevent crashes. The AMG E-Class Sedan has Car-to-X Communication, a system that seamlessly communicates important warnings to the driver about impending danger, if they're available. The CT5-V doesn’t offer a system that can receive automated systems from infrastructure or other vehicles.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the AMG E-Class Sedan has standard Rear Cross-Traffic Alert with Active Brake Assist, systems which detect vehicles approaching from the sides and can automatically apply the brakes to prevent a collision. The CT5-V Manual doesn't offer automatic rear cross-traffic braking.

Both the AMG E-Class Sedan and the CT5-V have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors, rear cross-path warning and available lane departure warning systems.

For smoother operation, better efficiency and fewer moving parts, the engines in the AMG E-Class Sedan have an overhead cam design, rather than the old pushrod design of the 6.2 supercharged V8 in the CT5-V.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the AMG E-Class Sedan second among upper midsize premium cars in their 2025 Initial Quality Study. The CT5-V isn’t in the top three in its category.

The AMG E 53 HYBRID Sedan’s standard 3.0 turbo 6-cylinder hybrid produces 217 more horsepower (577 vs. 360) and 148 lbs.-ft. more torque (553 vs. 405) than the CT5-V’s standard 3.0 turbo V6.

As tested in Car and Driver the AMG E 53 HYBRID Sedan is faster than the CT5-V Blackwing 6.2 supercharged V8 (automatics tested):

The AMG E 53 HYBRID Sedan can travel with zero emissions for 43 miles. The CT5-V can’t move without running its internal combustion engine.

Regenerative brakes improve the AMG E-Class Sedan’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The CT5-V doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

Regardless of its engine, the AMG E-Class Sedan’s engine automatically turns off when the vehicle is stopped, saving fuel and reducing pollution. If the conditions warrant or the driver wishes, the system can be manually disabled at any time for the duration of a trip. The CT5-V Blackwing doesn’t offer an automatic engine start/stop system.

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Mercedes AMG E-Class Sedan higher (6 out of 10) than the Cadillac CT5-V (2 to 4). This means the AMG E-Class Sedan produces up to 27.7 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the CT5-V every 15,000 miles.

For better traction, the AMG E-Class Sedan has larger tires than the CT5-V (F:265/40R20 & R:295/35R20 vs. 245/40R19).

The AMG E-Class Sedan’s standard 295/35R20 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 35 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the CT5-V’s standard 40 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the AMG E-Class Sedan has standard 20-inch wheels. Smaller 19-inch wheels are standard on the CT5-V. The AMG E-Class Sedan’s optional 21-inch wheels are larger than the 20-inch wheels optional on the CT5-V.

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the AMG E-Class Sedan is 1 inch wider in the front and 1.6 inches wider in the rear than the average track on the CT5-V.

The AMG E 53 HYBRID Sedan executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver quicker than the CT5-V (24.1 seconds @ .84 average G’s vs. 24.9 seconds @ .76 average G’s).

As tested by Car and Driver while cruising at 70 MPH, the interior of the AMG E 53 HYBRID Sedan is quieter than the CT5-V Blackwing (72 vs. 74 dB).

The AMG E-Class Sedan has 1.1 inches more front shoulder room, 1 inch more rear headroom and 1.4 inches more rear shoulder room than the CT5-V.

The AMG E-Class Sedan has a larger trunk than the CT5-V (12.7 vs. 11.9 cubic feet).

Pressing a switch automatically lowers the AMG E-Class Sedan’s rear seats, to make changing between passengers and cargo easier. The CT5-V doesn’t offer automatic folding seats.

With its sedan body style, valet key, locking rear seatbacks and remote trunk release lockout, the AMG E-Class offers cargo security. The CT5-V’s non-lockable folding seat defeats cargo security.

To make loading and unloading groceries and cargo easier, especially for short adults, the AMG E-Class Sedan has a standard power trunk, which opens and closes automatically by pressing a button or just by kicking your foot under the back bumper, completely leaving your hands free. The CT5-V doesn’t offer a power trunk, so its trunk has to be closed manually.

Unlike the driver-only memory system in the CT5-V, the AMG E-Class Sedan has standard driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position, outside mirror angle, climate settings and radio stations and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

If the windows are left open on the AMG E-Class Sedan the driver can close all of them at the outside door handle or from a distance using the remote. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the CT5-V can only close the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are standard on the AMG E-Class Sedan to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The CT5-V doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

A power rear sunshade and manual rear side window sunshades are optional in the AMG E-Class Sedan to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The CT5-V doesn’t offer a rear or rear side window sunshades.

The Mercedes AMG E-Class Sedan has power folding mirrors that offer unparalleled convenience while maneuvering in tight places or parked. With the mirrors folded it’s easier to walk past and help prevent parking damage. The mirrors can be quickly unfolded when the driver is ready to leave. Power folding mirrors costs extra on the CT5-V.

Both the AMG E-Class Sedan and the CT5-V have standard heated front seats. The AMG E-Class Sedan also offers optional heated rear seats to keep those passengers extremely comfortable in the winter. Heated rear seats aren’t available in the CT5-V.

The AMG E-Class Sedan’s Active Parking Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. Remote Parking Assist will park and retrieve your car remotely: press a button and watch it park itself. This is ideal for tight locations. The CT5-V (except Manual)’s automatic parking system does not offer parking by remote control.

The Mercedes AMG E-Class comes in sedan and station wagon bodystyles; the Cadillac CT5-V isn’t available as a station wagon.

Motor Trend selected the AMG E-Class Sedan as their 2025 Car of the Year. The CT5-V has never been chosen.
